TOM CLANCY'S H.A.W.X Spy author Tom Clancy has brought a number of successful creations to the world of games, from Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six to Ghost Recon. To buck with the trend of all the Clancy games being ground-based incursions, H.A.W.X takes us to the skies for explosive aerial combat. Set in the near future, the player dons the flight helmet of an ace pilot who has left the army to work for a private military company. You won't need to be a flight sim expert to play H.A.W.X, as the game introduces new features to make piloting a high-tech jet a breeze. If you can't get a bogey in your sights or need to avoid incoming missiles, one tap of a button will show you the correct flight path to your goal. This keeps dogfights fast and furious, eliminating the dead time of flying aimlessly - and budding top guns can disable this help if desired. The terrain looks almost photorealistic at times and with various cockpit views and pilot chatter, the immersion is fantastic. However, the excitement of missions tapers off as you play, as the repetitious nature of closing in for target lock and firing your payload takes its toll.
